- Open an image of your choice (should show a person).
- If necessary, crop the image to get only the face. Select the Crop tool (Shift+C) and drag a selection around the face. Hit enter.
- Now convert the photo to black/white by going to the top menu and selecting Image - Mode- Grayscale.
- Now create a new black layer in front of the layer with her face by right clicking in the layers window and making a new layer. You can select the foreground color if it is black in your tool menu. Or, you can make a new menu and use the paint bucket tool to paint it black.
- Then select the Text tool and enter your lyrics. Adjust the font size to 16. Make the color of your text WHITE. Pick your font. Copy/paste the lyrics so they fill the whole image.
- Then right-click on the text layer and “Merge Down”. You won’t see any changes now, but the text and the black layer are now merged.
- Right-click on the face layer and choose “Add Alpha Channel”.
- Activate the text layer again and duplicate it (right click on it and click “duplicate”. There is also a duplicate button in the bottom of the layers window.
- Blur the new duplicated text using Filter / Blur / Gaussian Blur
- Switch the layer to “screen” mode (this is above the opacity bar in the layers window)
- Then right-click on the layer in the Layers dialog and choose “Merge down” again. Your text should hopefully have an “aura” or “halo” or “bloom” around the letters.
- Make a new layer, fill it with black
- Organize your layers so that the face is on top, the black is in the middle and the text is on the bottom.
- Right-click the face layer in the Layers dialog and select “Add Layer Mask” / White.
- Now click your text layer and press Ctrl+A or use Select / All.
- Copy the selection (Ctrl+C).
- Now switch to the layer mask again (click on the small white area in the Layers dialog to activate the mask).
- Now insert the selection with Edit / Paste or Ctrl+V.
- Right click the new layer and select “anchor layer” so it isn’t floating,
